TOKYOITE – Why you should eat this shrimp taco for lunch in Daikanyama

A few months ago we told you about the delicious shrimp starter and seared tuna dish we had for dinner at new Daikanyama restaurant CEDROS. If you read that review, you’ll know we’re fans of the American-style seafood spot. There’s something about the way these guys combine flavours that turns what could be a simple dish into something you start to crave. So we were more than pleased when co-owner Yui Shirako emailed us to announce they’re now open for lunch too.
As with their dinner menu, lunch is inspired by the food Yui and his brother Lui (chef and co-owner) grew up eating on the beaches of San Diego, California and Honolulu, Hawaii. The menu is short, consisting of three kinds of burritos and two kinds of tacos. It was a toss up between the Lobster Burrito (1,800) and the Soft Shell Shrimp Tacos (¥1,200 for two, ¥1,500 for three), but we went for the shrimp.
The waiter delivers the tortillas with a helpful ‘Everything is edible’, in case you’re wondering about having to de-shell the shrimp. He’s right – the shell is soft, with just a slight crunch, but one that feels like you’re eating something roasted. As with all CEDROS dishes, the flavours keep coming, this time with a mix of shrimp, mango salsa, cumin crema, cabbage slaw and baba ganoush.
Next time, we’re trying this burrito…
